Franck Gervaise was born in the Manche department of Lower Normandy on 9 November 1967.
His first encounter with painting dates back to nursery school. After completing a secondary-school diploma in applied arts, Franck entered the Rennes School of Architecture in 1986 and qualified as a DPLG architect in 1995.
After two years as a salaried architect in a Rennes practice and several personal architectural projects, he realised that his attraction to painting was stronger and that architecture left him too little time to pursue this passion. He therefore decided to take the competitive examination in visual arts in order to move closer to painting, passing it in 1997 and becoming a qualified visual-arts teacher.
From the age of twenty, he took part in numerous painting salons and won several prizes.
From 1997 to the present day, he has held a number of solo and group exhibitions from Cherbourg to Nantes, at Galerie Le Rayon Vert, as well as in Poitiers, Vannes and Parisian galleries. He has also been guest of honour at several painting salons. From 2004 to 2025, he exhibited with and was represented by Galerie Les Funambules in Vannes, Morbihan, the city where he lives and paints. Since 2025, his work has been on permanent display at Galerie des Îles in La Trinité-sur-Mer, as well as at his home in Vannes. His favourite subjects are trees and forests—the Forests series—coastlines, particularly during storms—the Storms series—and Brittany’s changing skies over the sea—the Horizon/Elevation series—which also have a mystical dimension, as well as nudes.
Landscape is his main source of inspiration, but he also creates urban landscapes in the K’Nowhere series, depicting the retail areas that surround modern cities. He particularly enjoys representing them at night or on Sundays, at times when people have deserted them and left them like no-man’s-lands.
His preferred medium is oil pastel, as well as Indian ink and watercolour. For large-format studio works, however, he favours acrylic and oil techniques.
